Music for the Soul

I lovee a good song. Music speaks to me and so many of you in so many ways. It's kind of like a universal language. I do not know where I'd be if I didn't have music. So let's talk about some, shall we? Today, let's talk about gospel!!

Over the New Year holiday, I participated in South Central SALT conference with my campus ministry and they are big on worship! They posted the playlist ahead of time, but I honestly only looked to see what songs I already knew. Spoiler alert, I knew like 3 lol. So over the course of this conference we had about 5 worship services and I enjoyed it. Not all the songs were immediate favorites but by the end, I had some new music to add to my gospel playlist.

I have also been seeing a ton of reels and tiktoks with gospel songs I've never heard before. Good gospel songs. Ones that don't necessarily follow the same pattern of most gospel music but still gets a message across and is enjoyable. When I come across music in short videos that I like, I'll go find a full YouTube version. Then if I like that, it goes on the Spotify playlist.

But big picture point here is... I have some music that's new to me, that I'd like to share with yall!

First up is Grave Clothes by Tribl and Maverick City.

This is a song from the SALT playlist that grew on me. The first time I heard it I was doing my lil clap and rock to it because it had a nice rhythm. But I wasn't getting the hype all the other students had for it when they started playing it. I also did not know the song before SALT so that probably affected my reaction too. I will say by the last worship service, I got it.

This song says "Walked out of my grave clothes, and I, came out in a new robe, I was, buried there for too long, now I, come alive in the one who has conquered it all."

That right there = 🔥 Please go listen to it.

Next up is Don't Worry Bout It by Wande and Porsha Love.

I came across this song while scrolling aimlessly through reels on insta. I heard the beat before I heard what she was saying. And I was like this a lil fire. Then I was like holdon, she talking bout God??? Lemme listen again so I can hear what she saying. And she was! After that I took my happy self to YouTube to look up the whole song because I just had to hear it at that point. And I must say, they did they thang!! The music is not what you typically expect from a gospel song. And that's a big part of the reason I enjoy listening to it.

They said "Call it holy girl summer cause we chillin with the Son."

PUH LEASEEEEE Who you know, repping God like that?! And yall catch that word play? Yea they ate 🔥

The last song is Have Me by Hulvey. This song was on a reel I came across while scrolling casually on Instagram. I have no clue what the video was. It was probably one of those videos where there's a person dancing to the song and with words on screen saying there's still good gospel music lol. But regardless what video it was, I'm so glad that it came across my page. I knew it would be a great song to add to my playlist and listening to the full thing would just be a formality. I feel like it just got better listening to the whole song.

This song says "I had no drip in my life so he flavored me " Yall. He said "I HAD NOT DRIP IN MY LIFE SO HE FLAVORED ME." 🔥 I kid you not when it got to this line I started the song over. Go. Listen.

I'm just gonna talk about those 3 songs in this post but keep an eye out for other song related posts! These songs all speak to me in their own way. Plus, who doesn't want to liven up the playlist with some gospel heat!?! What we put into ourselves is what we get back out and me personally, I want to be sure that I feed my soul with some good gospel music. I really hope you enjoyed this post and went to hear those songs! If you've heard them before, give me some suggestions for other songs. If this was your first listen, let me know what you think. I promise nobody is paying me to talk about them haha. I genuinely enjoy them all and I hope you do as well. Be sure to pay attention to the lyrics too, not just the rhythm and beat ;) Until next time...

Love ya muchly,

~Riah~
